It’s the first Sunday of August, so it’s time for some new ink palettes! This month I decided to focus on a school theme since my kids start school at the end of the month.
Die alte Dame aus 2002 ist endlich wieder vollständig einsatzbereit. Letzte Woche habe ich noch die Kontakte im Batteriefachdeckel ausgetauscht und ihr anstelle der Ni-mh #Akkus zwei Sätze wiederaufladbare #Lithiumbatterien gegönnt. Dank neuer (🙄😁) Firmware von 2004 und eines SD>CF Adapters speichert sie nun auch etwas schneller und kann, je nach SD-Karte mit bis zu 4GB Speicherkapazität umgehen. Das funktionierte seinerzeit ja nur mit Karten bis zu 1GB.
Ach, ja: bei ALI Express habe ich einen tatsächlich einen passenden ø49mm Polfilter (zirkulär) ergattern können. Der Preis dafür war mit $5.17 so unverschämt billig, dass ich mich fast dafür schämen möchte. Die Kamera darf nun gerne nochmal weitere 20 Jahre halten. Das Objektiv ist eine Wonne, und der Bildsensor mit seinen nur 5.2 Megapixeln liefert eine knackige Schärfe und oft schon fast pastellig wirkende Farben.
Dafür lasse ich gerne mal die analogen Filme im Kühlschrank und gehe bestimmt wieder häufiger mit dieser Oma auf Tour.
(English) My good old lady, a #Minolta #Dimage7 from 2002, is finally fully operational again. Last week I replaced the contacts in the battery cover with new ones and treated it to two sets of #EBL rechargeable AA 1.5V #lithiumbatteries instead of the 1.2V Ni-mh ones.
Thanks to new firmware from 2004 and an SD>CF adapter, it now saves a little faster and, depending on the SD card, can even handle up to 4GB storage capacity. At the time, this only worked with cards up to 1GB.😜
Oh, btw: at #AliExpress I got a suitable ø49mm circular polarizing filter. The price for it was so outrageously cheap at $5.17 that I almost want to be ashamed of it.
The camera can now last another 20 years (😎). To me the lens is a delight, and the sensor with its only 5.2 megapixels delivers crisp sharpness and often wonderfully pastel-prone colors.
I like to leave the analogue films in the fridge and will definitely go on tour with this 'grandma' more often.

It looks a bit like as photographed in 1924, but I took that picture in April of 2019. No filters or edits needed, the negative came out so shabby due to accidental overxposure if the film by damaged light meter of my now > 50 y.o. Agfa Optima camera. I think, it should be worth to do a few prints in 4" x 6" postcard format. We'll see... 😎
@MadameAurelia Ich werd mal gucken, wie das im Probedruck auf meinem alten #Tetenal #PEpapier rauskommt. Mal sehen was ich noch so an Filmstreifen wiederfinde, vielleicht mal so eine kleine Reihe mit je 30 od. 50 Exemplaren drucken lassen.

So, a few days ago I cleaned & filled my Hexo with Parker Quink Blue-Black ink. Just now, I decided to doodle a bit on photo paper to see how the ink behaves on smooth/shiny surfaces. Spoiler alert: Besides Schneider's Royal Blue for the rollerballpen, I've found my new everyday blue for fountainpens. 😁

Oh my gosh, what a terribly bad paper! Even during the test print for my printer settings, the photo came out looking shabby. And when writing with the fountain pen, the ink was absorbed poorly and unevenly.
Picture 2, Tetenal Spectre PE Lustre inkjet paper 4" x 6", ~ 12-15 years expired:
The Quink fountain pen ink applies well, has sharp edges, and even on this very old paper, it immediately seeps under the PE protective layer and dries instantly, just like printer inks do (and should!). I didn't expect the Quink to work so well on photo paper.
Unfortunately, Tetenal Spectre has been out of production for a long time and I'm currently living off my remaining stock. Oh, and on regular paper, the Quink Blue-Black behaves just as well. I'm in love! 🙂🙃🤩
After the (vibration) cleaning (last photos of that).
Jetzt bin ich aber mal geflasht! Es ist mir zwar nicht neu, einen Füller zu reinigen, aber heute habe ich erstmals ein Vibrationsreinigungsgerät dazu benutzt. Das Ergebnis kann sich sehen lassen, oder? 🤩 Ich hoffe, er ist bald trocken, ich will endlich die neue Tinte ausprobieren...
I'm really flashed! I'm not new into cleaning a fountainpen, but today I used a vibration cleaning machine the first time. The result is impressive, right?
I hope for drying soon, I finally want to try the new ink...
I like the sonic cleaners. There is a slight risk though. I sonic cleaned a vintage pocket pen and vibrated the vintage glue holding the inlay apart. The metal inlay was bent before and needed work anyway.
I start with water and maybe add soap if things are stubborn. I soaked and flushed this pen and thought it was mostly clean. The sonic cleaner shook loose lots of old ink. 50 year old adhesive that was already weakened was my issue with the inlay. I'm glad it popped off where I could find the part. All repaired now.
Am Wochenende hatte ich endlich den #Hexo leergeschrieben. Nachdem es nun schon einige Wochen her ist, dass die blauschwarze Tinte von Parker hier ankam, will ich den Füller mal durchreinigen und hab ihn ins Vibrationsbad gelegt. Wen das "Reinigungsmittel" interessiert:
1 Spritzer Frosch Bio Geschirrspülmittel* 1 Prise (Teelöffelspitze) 'Heitmanns Reine Soda'** ca. 350ml Leitungswasser*** , ca. 30° Celsius
*) Spülmittel o. Rückfettung oder andere Zusätze
**) Eine knappe Löffelspitze reicht dicke, vor Benutzung ein Viertelstündchen in Ruhe auflösen lassen!
***) Wenn das Leitungswasser (wie hier in #Kiel ) zu kalkhaltig ist, einfach destilliertes od. gereinigtes Wasser aus der Flasche nehmen - ich gebe dann allerdings ein knappes 1 Gramm Meersalz auf den Liter dazu.
Ach ja: Markennennung ist keine Werbung. Ich nehme diese Utensilien schon seit Jahren zur Filmentwicklung/Manipulation und hab mich dran gewöhnt. Deshalb messe ich auch nicht mehr in Gramm, Millilitern oder sonstwas.
